13/02/2026

On February 11, the General Assembly of the Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands (CES) paid an institutional visit to the Dos Santos factory, located in Gran Canaria, with the aim of gaining first-hand knowledge of the productive activity and current situation of the tobacco sector in the archipelago.

During the tour of the facilities, the councilors were able to observe the different manufacturing and production processes, as well as exchange views on the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in the current economic climate. The visit provided an opportunity to explore issues related to the modernization of production processes, job retention, and the sector’s adaptation to regulatory and market changes.

The factory management outlined the company’s history and its roots in the Canary Islands economy, highlighting its contribution to the island’s productive fabric and its role in generating direct and indirect employment.

For the CES, these types of meetings are essential for strengthening direct contact with the different economic and social sectors of the Canary Islands, facilitating a better understanding of their situation and their demands. The visit is part of the Council’s desire to maintain a close relationship with the business and labor reality of the archipelago, thus enriching its advisory work and its contributions to public debate.

The Economic and Social Council of the Canary Islands thanks the Dos Santos factory for its warm welcome and willingness to share its experience and vision of the present and future of the sector.
